The Ghost is a puppet created by Josh to scare Ashley and Chris in the basement of Washington Lodge.
Appearance[]
She looks similar to Hannah, except that she has gray skin that is covered in blood and wounds. During the jumpscare, she has a pale and wrinkled face and fully white eyes. Her bloodied mouth is open in a scream. She also wears a white dress covered in blood stains.

Chapter 6[]
The ghost is seen walking around Washington Lodge while Ashley and Chris search for Sam, where Ashley believes she is showing them the way. She is first seen by Ashley walking down a corridor that leads to the basement and there she is seen again walking to a place where Ashley finds the key to the dollhouse. Ashley theorizes the ghost must have followed them from the séance, which Chris doesn't believe can be the case. While Ashley shows the key to Chris, the ghost is seen in the background pointing to the dollhouse. Ashley then walks over to the ghost who disappears again, and after Chris and Ashley open a door after hearing a noise, the ghost appears in front of Ashley, screams in her face, then quickly disappears. After this the ghost is no longer seen until the next Chapter.

After Josh reveals himself to be the Psycho, it is shown through flashbacks that the ghost was just a puppet that he used as part of the prank.

- During the séance in Chapter 3, Beth briefly appears as a ghost behind Chris and Ashley.
- In 2023, creative executive director Will Byles mentioned in a podcast that the ghost in this scene is real: "There's a bit during the séance where in the background, you do actually see the ghost, and that was an actual ghost as well. And you know, you don't always have to explain it."[1]
- In a 10-year-anniversary interview, Will Byles confirmed that the ghost in question is Beth: "Beth is just standing in the background and almost no one sees it because we made a point of getting no one to see it."[2]
- The model for Beth's ghost is the same as the one for the puppet made by Josh.

- In the PS3 beta, the ghost appears in two different ways depending on the build.
- In more recent builds, she has a pretty similar appearance, except that her jumpscare happens right after Ashley reads Hannah's diary, followed by her teleporting backwards until she disappears. In this version, she looks much more like a ghost, with floating hair and a glowing form.
- In older versions, her appearances are much less prominent and more fake-looking, showing up as a projector image rather than a puppet; after Ashley reads the diary, instead of being frightened by the ghost, she just sees its face in the bathroom mirror, which quickly disappears.
