I never knew how real it was ... It's not a disease, nor is it a virus. It is a curse.

— Ted to the survivors

Father Ted Mosely is a priest and the chaplain of Blackwood Pines Sanatorium during the events of The Inpatient. He is voiced by Jarreth Merz and modeled on Michael Addo.

Appearance[]

Ted is a middle-aged black man with brown eyes and curly, black hair, which, like his beard, he wears trimmed very short. As is typical of a priest in the Catholic church, he wears an all black ensemble: black pants, shoes, and a black, long sleeve dress shirt adorned with a white clerical collar. He personalizes his outfit with a green vest and brown, browline-style glasses.

Personality[]

Ted is a very calm and collected individual throughout the game. He is also shown to be quite observant, as he was the one who realized that stillness was the only defense against the Wendigo. He connected the legends he heard from indigenous tribes back in his Missionary days with the curse of the Wendigo and used that knowledge to save a small group of survivors.

His defining characteristic is his concern for the safety of the others. As the survivors make their way out of the sanatorium, he urges unity and tries to hold the group together. Memories reveal he begged Jefferson Bragg to cease his experiments on the miners. In the game's conclusion, he prevents either the protagonist or Dr. Bennet (whichever one is transforming into a Wendigo) from descending the mountain and attacking more people, potentially at the cost of his own life.

The Inpatient[]

After Wendigos break loose within the facility, slaughtering much of the staff, a small group of survivors—David, Gordon or Anna (depending on the player's gender), the patient, and Suzanne—abandons Jefferson Bragg in his office, upon his own request. He directs them to the Chapel where Ted is.

Following Bragg’s advice, the group makes their way through the halls and corridors of the Sanatorium until they reach a door leading to an outside path toward the Chapel. One by one, they exit, though if Suzanne moves while the Wendigo is near, she will be killed.

The survivors then make it to the Chapel, where Ted greets them. He asks what became of Bragg and, if Suzanne didn't make it, what happened to her as well. The group takes shelter inside, waiting for the police to arrive. When help finally comes, one of the arriving officers suddenly shoots and kills a nurse, then opens fire on the group in the Chapel. In a panic, the survivors barricade the door and flee into the depths of the sanatorium once again, now pursued by the police.

As they search for another escape route, tensions rise when Gordon or Anna—whoever is with the group—begins to hear voices, as they transform into a Wendigo. Ted tries to reassure them, insisting the voices aren't real. But the afflicted character snaps, shoving Ted and calling him a liar.

Pressing forward, the group hears the police closing in and scrambles into an elevator. Just as the doors close, the officers break through and open fire. David can be fatally struck by the bullets. As the elevator descends, Ted turns to Gordon/Anna, asking if there's anything they can do for the wounded David. But Gordon/Anna, visibly succumbing to the Wendigo curse, remains silent.

The elevator suddenly stops. The control panel is broken, and the police, still in pursuit, hit the call button from below. As the doors open, one of the officers prepares to fire again but is killed by a Wendigo before he can shoot. The player quickly presses the button to send the elevator back up. The elevator stops at the hotel level, where the group is greeted by Victor Milgram, confused and alarmed by the gunfire. After a brief exchange, Victor helps lead them up to the cable car station.

If David was mortally wounded, he dies before they can escape. The person transforming into a Wendigo, Gordon/Anna or the patient themselves, is increasingly erratic and unstable, prompting Ted to refuse to let them leave the mountain, insisting it's too dangerous. Gordon or Anna agrees and tells the others they should have never listened to Bragg, and urges them to get away from Gordon/Anna. The doctor stays behind to operate the cable car, while Ted and the rest escape. In the case of the player, they can refuse or accept: if they refuse, the player will kill Ted.

Possible Deaths[]

  • If the player transformed into a Wendigo and refuses to leave the mountain, they will attack and kill Ted.
  • If the player presses the wrong elevator button, Ted will get shot by the police.
