The sawed-off shotgun is a weapon found by Mike in Chapter 9 in the Chapel, while he's searching for Josh. Mike uses the shotgun to defend himself against the Wendigos in the Sanatorium.
His last use of the shotgun was to block the door once escaping the Sanatorium and to stop the Wendigos from going after him and Sam.
