Oh my god. What did our naive sister get herself into now? |

Hannah and Beth are sisters in Until Dawn.
Overview[]
Hannah and Beth Washington are twin sisters. They are the younger siblings of Josh Washington and the children of Bob and Melinda Washingtons. Their relationship is very close, though Beth considers Hannah to be quite naive.
Despite having little screen time, the twins play a key role in Until Dawn, acting as the catalyst for the story when they disappear on Blackwood Mountain following the humiliating prank on Hannah.
Until Dawn[]
One Year Ago[]
In the remake[]
The game opens up with Beth walking down the porch steps of the Washington Lodge so that she can dispose of some trash. While outside, she interacts with a deer which she can either stroke or startle. Inside, Hannah finds and reads a note which indicates that her crush, Mike, wants to privately meet her. When Beth re-enters the kitchen, Hannah closes her laptop, hiding the letter. The sisters then work together to take Josh, who has passed out drunk at the counter, over to the next room where Chris is also passed out. They deposit Josh on a sofa near Chris, and Beth warms herself at the fire while Hannah checks the note again. Jessica spies on Hannah then goes into an adjacent room where she whispers to Emily. The note is revealed to be a ruse to prank Hannah. Sam, Hannah's best friend, overhears the discussion and attempts to dissuade the others from their plans. The group watches Hannah smile at Mike as she heads upstairs. They go to set up, leaving an annoyed Sam behind.
A montage plays which shows Hannah changing tops, applying makeup, and journaling in preparation for her meeting with Mike. Meanwhile, those involved in the prank prepare the guest room. Beth, who has gone to warm herself by the fire, remains unaware of the situation.
Sam arrives at the guest room to try and stop the prank at the last minute, but is too late. Hannah, humiliated, runs from the lodge and into the woods. Everyone present except Josh and Chris go outside, but only Beth - calling the others jerks - runs after Hannah. Beth searches the woods, finds a shack, and is nearly caught in a blast of flame from an unseen source. She eventually finds Hannah. The girls run from a pursuer, Beth dropping her phone in the process, and fall from a clifftop. When a figure reaches towards Beth, she may drop Hannah or have them both fall. Either way, both girls plummet and land on the rocks below.
In the original game[]
Prior to the opening of the game, Washington siblings had invited their seven friends over for a party at their lodge in Alberta. The story starts after the party has settled down, and Beth is seen alone in the kitchen, staring through a window. Fixated on a vague figure outside, she does not hear Jessica, Emily, and Mike discussing a prank they plan to play on Hannah, nor does she hear Sam attempting to dissuade them. After everyone leaves, Beth attempts to ask Josh about the figure outside. However, Josh and Chris, both having passed out from drinking, do not respond to her. Seeing her brother's inebriated state, Beth jokingly comments that he's outdone everyone. Afterwards, she finds the note Jessica put down for Hannah, asking her to come to the guest room. The note appears to have been signed by Mike, Hannah's crush.
Hannah arrives at the guest room to see Mike waiting for her. Doing as the note suggested, Hannah begins to unbutton her blouse. Before she is able to fully remove it, she hears laughter from under the bed and covers herself in embarrassment. The group then emerges from their hiding places, humiliating Hannah. Sam, finally finding Hannah, barges into the room and reassures her that it was just a stupid prank. Hannah, upset, runs out of the room and eventually outside the lodge.
Beth notices Hannah running out of the lodge and starts to worry. She can choose between waking Josh up - which is unsuccessful - or running after the others. Either way, she takes her winter coat and ends up outside the lodge, watching as Hannah dashes into the woods. Beth asks the others what happened. Jess claims that Hannah can't take a joke while Mike tries to explain that what happened wasn't serious and Emily calls after Hannah, telling her that everything was just a prank. Beth calls the others jerks then goes after he sister.
Chapter 1[]
Sam is seen on a bus, listening to a live radio podcast. The one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Hannah and Beth is mentioned by a radio news reporter and the Sheriff of Blackwood Pines. After that, Sam plays a video from Josh who expresses his excitement at the group coming back together again. He claims it will be hard to go back after what happened last year, but wants to have a good time for the sake of Hannah and Beth.
After entering the cable car with Chris, Sam discusses Josh's state and the events that occurred last year.
Chapter 2[]
While they try to get into the lodge, Chris can attempt to talk to Josh about Hannah and Beth. Josh will brush him off, though his stat with Chris will increase.
When walking to the guest cabin, Jessica and Mike will discover police tape. Mike will mention they never closed the investigation, and he may ask Jessica what she remembers or be respectful and say that Hannah and Beth are probably happy they are thinking of them.
Chapter 3[]
As Josh, Ashley, and Chris set up a seance to play with a spirit board, the situation quickly gets out of hand when the pointer starts moving around unexpectedly. It tells the trio that the spirit speaking is Hannah or Beth. The pointer tells them to go to the library. Here, Chris finds a portrait photo and a threatening letter about Hannah and Beth.
Chapter 5[]
As Matt and Emily make their way to the tower, Matt may find Beth's phone, prompting them to question how throughout the police investigation truly was. They will eventually discover the cliff edge from which Hannah and Beth fell.
Chapter 6[]
At the fire tower, Emily map find a missing poster of Hannah and a missing poster of Beth and say she is sorry they are still gone. Matt claims their disappearance is starting to make more sense after what has been happening that night.
The sisters are also continuously mentioned by Ashley and Chris as they explore the lodge's basement and the old hotel, find a dollhouse depicting the night of the prank, and watch a tape of the prank. Ashley has opportunities to express remorse or say that it wasn't her fault Hannah ran.
Chapter 7[]
When making her way through the mines, looking for an exit, Emily will discover the rock slide where Hannah and Beth fell down the night of their disappearance. She may find Hannah's glasses, a photo of Hannah with her tattoo, mysterious marks on a rock, a wooden cross with Beth's name on it, and Hannah's locket.[1] Here, she will conclude Hannah survived and was down in the mines. Continuing, Emily may notice a shimmering jacket with something on top of it. If she chooses to interact with the figure, she will discover that it's the remains of Beth's head, with her body nowhere to be seen. Horrified, Emily will back away and cry out Beth's name. In the remake, this sequence always happens.
Chapter 8[]
If Emily makes her way back to the lodge from her mine escape, she may mention Beth and Hannah, depending on the (amount of) clues the player has found throughout the story.
- If the player found Beth's phone, but failed to discover enough clues in the mine, Emily will mention they found her phone, to which Chris will respond that that could mean anything.
- If Emily found a few clues in the mines, but not enough to determine Hannah's survival, she will explain that she thinks the twins fell down the mine.
- If Emily found enough clues to discover Hannah survived, she will tell the group she doesn't think Hannah died right away from the fall, and that she had a feeling she was down there starving to death for weeks.
- If Emily found Beth's head, she will reveal it to the group, confirming her death.
- In the remake, she will always find Beth's head.
Chapter 10[]
Josh, trapped down in the mines, begins to have vivid, gruesome hallucinations of his sisters. Hannah and Beth torment him and ask why he didn't save them. They insist that Josh join them. Because this sequence happens in Josh's mind, it indicates that he blames himself for their disappearance and continues to take his role as their brother seriously. This is also evident based how he sees Dr. Hill blaming him in a previous hallucination; the psychiatrist mentions Josh did nothing to save his siblings.
The mysteries regarding the twins' disappearance start to unravel if Sam finds Beth's grave with her watch and a scrawled journal. The journal confirms Hannah was trapped in the mine after her fall, with a broken leg, watching over her deceased sister. In the following weeks, Hannah began to starve to death. In the journal, she explains that she tried to stay strong, but has never felt this hungry in her life. A page later, she expresses extreme guilt for an action she felt it necessary to do. It is then revealed Hannah buried Beth, but dug her up later in order to cannibalize her for survival.
This confirms Hannah turned into a Wendigo, and has been stalking and murdering the group throughout the events of Until Dawn.
When Sam and Mike come to the realization Hannah turned into a Wendigo, they will start their search for Josh. After discovering Hannah's lair, they ultimately find him, still hallucinating. If Sam found the journal, she will tell Josh that Hannah was down in the mines for a month and dug Beth up. Sam will later make her way back to the lodge, while Mike searches for another way out with Josh. They are then confronted by Hannah the Wendigo.
- If Sam found the Scrawled Journal and warned Josh, he will recognize the butterfly tattoo on Hannah's arm. As he recognizes his sister, she will recognize him in return. She will then drag him away, alive.
- If Sam did not find the Scrawled Journal and did not warn Josh, he will be too late to recognize his sister. Hannah will then kill him by crushing his head.
Hannah as a Wendigo.
Depending on who is alive between Jessica and/or Matt, the pair will either meet up or walk through the mines on their own. They will be threatened when Hannah chases them. If they don't hide (in Jessica's case), don't make a choice, or move they will be killed by her.
After Sam makes it back to the lodge, she and Mike and whoever is alive among Chris, Ashley, and Emily will be confronted by Hannah and the other Wendigos. Hannah, notably bigger and stronger than the other Wendigos, begins to fight them as Sam and Mike make plans to explode the lodge. Regardless of what happens, Hannah will always die in the final inferno.
Trivia[]
- In the Scrawled Journal, Hannah calls Beth “my little sister,” revealing that despite their personalities, Hannah is the older twin and Beth is the younger twin.
- If Beth lets go of Hannah, her relationship with her does not decrease, indicating Hannah does not hold the action against her.
