— Hannah
|
Hannah Washington is a non-playable character who becomes the main antagonist of Until Dawn. She was the middle child of the Washington family – the older twin sister of Beth and the younger sister of Josh Washington.
After she fell victim to a prank orchestrated by her friends, Hannah fled into the woods, followed by Beth. It is here where they were cornered and fell off a cliff. The sisters were never seen again. Hannah survived her fall, but eventually succumbed to cannibalism, turning her into a Wendigo. As a Wendigo, Hannah stalks and potentially kills her friends throughout the course of the night.
Like Beth, she was voiced and motion captured by actress Ella Lentini.
Appearance[]
Hannah is a teenage girl with medium-shoulder length dark brown hair and brown eyes. Hannah's height is 5'8" (172 cm) and her weight is 110 lbs, the same as Beth.[2] She wears onyx-black rectangular glasses, blue jeans and a black, lacy blouse. After Beth finds her in the woods, she wears Beth's fuchsia winter coat.
In the reworked Prologue of the 2024 version, before Hannah went to see Mike, she wore a red hooded jacket and gray yoga pants with black vertical lines, matching the outfit Sam wears later in the game.
She has a tattoo of a black butterfly on her upper right arm, which she got after taking a magazine compatibility test that advised her to do something reckless in order to get Mike's attention, such as getting a tattoo or running away from home. Hannah also wears a heart-shaped locket with a picture of her and Beth.
Personality[]
At the beginning of the game, Hannah had a crush on Mike. Based on her diary and her actions in the Prologue, she is seen as being very trusting towards others. Her twin sister refers to her as being 'naive.'
Hannah's near-obsessive crush on Mike, and the lengths she goes to in an attempt to get him to notice her, suggest she is rather insecure and tries her best to be appreciated by others. Given the results of the compatibility test, she is probably the opposite of Mike in terms of personality, who generally comes across as bold and outgoing.
Until Dawn[]
Biography[]
Hannah is the second child of the Washington family, being the older twin sister of Beth and the younger sister of Josh.
Appearing to be rather naive, Hannah hopelessly crushes on her friend Mike, whom she specifically hopes to see when she, Josh and Beth invite their friends over to the lodge for a weekend of fun.
Hannah, along with Beth, disappeared on February 2nd of 2014. The police searched high and wide, but despite their best efforts, the sisters are still missing, presumed dead.

One Year Ago[]
In the remake[]
Hannah gets ready for her meetup with Mike (2024 remake).
An excited Hannah then enters her room, picks out an outfit to impress Mike, and writes a quick diary entry about the ordeal. She looks at herself in the mirror and chugs a red cup with alcohol to muster up courage. As Hannah eventually enters the guest room, she is met by Mike who sits in a chair. The pair greet each other, and Hannah begins to unbutton her shirt.
In the original game[]
Around 2 AM on February 2nd of 2014, the protagonists (with the exception of Sam, who was unwilling, and Josh and Chris, who had passed out from drinking) decided to play a prank on an unsuspecting Hannah. As Sam criticizes the cruelty of the prank, Jessica brushes this off, claiming she deserves it for making moves on Emily's then-boyfriend, Mike. They leave a note behind for Hannah, convincing her to come to the guest room, signed by Mike. The group then head up to the room and hide there.
Hannah is pranked.
After finding Hannah, they see an unknown figure (revealed as a Wendigo later) behind them, which then follows the two until they reach the edge of a cliff.
Hannah and Beth both fall off the cliff when backing up, but Beth manages to grab a hanging branch with one hand and Hannah's hand with the other.
Chapter 1[]
The one-year anniversary of Hannah and Beth's disappearance is mentioned on a radio report that Sam is listening to. The report turns into a video message from Josh, who remarks that Hannah and Beth would be happy if they knew they were coming together in remembrance of them.
Chapter 2[]
Hannah's bedroom.
Chris and Sam can try to comfort Josh about his missing sisters. While looking for Josh, Sam has the option to visit Hannah's bedroom. Here it is revealed Hannah's crush on Mike was even bigger than imaginable, as multiple clues relate to her wanting to prove herself to him. The room is decorated with butterfly clippings and photos of her family and friends. Josh may later mention he used to play baseball on the mountain with his family during the summer, including his sisters.
Hannah, as a Wendigo, appears briefly for the first time right after Mike finds Fortune Totem #1, crawling on the ceiling in the mine very quickly. Hannah then also appears as a jumpscare when Mike looks through the telescope for a split second.
Chapter 3[]
Ashley, Chris, and Josh find a spirit board and attempt to contact a spirit for fun. However, the spirit they 'contact' asks for help. Chris, feeling skeptical about the board, asks Ashley about its identity, stating that they can't help if they don't know who it is. Ashley obeys Chris's advice and asks the spirit who they are, to which it responds with 'sister'. The atmosphere suddenly tenses up as all three are now scared that they may be talking to Hannah or Beth. Josh, distressed by the answer, wants to know which sister it is. Here, Ashley has the choice to say if it's Hannah or Beth they're speaking to. Regardless, the counter moves to 'yes'. The 'sister' communicating with them directs Ashley and Chris to the library as Josh leaves, accusing Chris and Ashley of this whole ordeal in order for him to have some closure and says that they're "full of it."
Hannah, as a Wendigo, continues to stalk Mike and Jessica as they make their way to the guest cabin. After Hannah fatally injures an elk and pulls the dying animal away in front of the pair, they run away, convinced they are being chased by a bear. After the couple make it inside, Hannah throws Jessica's phone through a cabin window, luring Jessica outside, who is convinced her friends play a prank on her. After Jess boasts about having sex with Mike, Hannah grabs her through the cabin door's window.
Chapter 4[]
Hannah proceeds to drag Jess through the snow and into the mines after having kidnapped her, where she potentially kills her if Mike does not catch up. While looking up, Mike will see the Wendigo and can shoot at her, causing a bullet to be stuck in her head if he does so. If Mike fails to slide down the closing gate, Hannah will be seen stalking him as he makes his way out of the mines through a different tunnel.
Chapter 6[]
Hannah next targets Matt and Emily, cutting the cables to the Fire Tower, causing it to collapse into the mine. If Matt dies by falling off the cliff, Hannah will drag his lifeless body away. If Matt chooses to save Emily after falling from the fire tower, Hannah will attack him in the mines and - if Matt doesn't have a usable flare gun or fails to shoot it - will kill Matt.
While searching the basement for Sam, Ashley and Chris are being guided and spooked by a supposed ghost. Upon seeing it for the second time, Ashley will exclaim that the ghost looks like Hannah or Beth. Chris and Ashley then speculates whether the ghost followed them from the seance, which Chris denies on the basis that ghosts don't exist, but can't rationalize what was happening at the seance. This is later revealed to be Josh's doing.
Chapter 7[]
Emily finds Hannah's glasses, showing that she was in the mines.
When Emily is making her way through the mines, she is able to find clues. If these are collected during the chapter, it reveals that Hannah miraculously survived the fall with only a broken leg and minor scratches. However, Beth was the unfortunate one of the two. As Beth had succumbed from major injuries, Hannah became the sole witness of her passing. For days, Hannah wandered, searching for a way out and awaited rescue while doing so. During her time down in the mines, she created a make-shift grave for Beth, all the while ignoring her hunger pains. A month after the fall, she reluctantly gave in to her hunger and decided to dig up Beth's grave and eat her corpse for sustenance, unaware of the fact that the spirit of a Wendigo was possessing her. Within a few days, Hannah had transformed into a Wendigo and finally escaped the mines.
Chapter 8[]
Hannah is briefly seen if Emily has been caught by the Stranger. The Stranger pushes Emily down a slide to safety while he fends off Hannah with his flamethrower. After facing off with the Stranger, Hannah ends up finding and pursuing Emily. If Emily messes up in certain situations, she will be killed by Hannah. If Emily doesn't have the flare gun, or does have it but makes a mistake during the chase, she will get bitten by Hannah the Wendigo. However, unbeknownst to the group until perhaps too late, the bite is not infectious. If Emily survives and makes it back to the lodge, she will explain to the others what she believes happened a year ago, amidst her panic.
When playing as Chris, Hannah kills the Stranger when they head back to the lodge with the knowledge that Josh has now disappeared from the shed. If Chris fails to shoot Hannah, or chose to shoot Ashley in Chapter 6, Hannah will decapitate Chris. If not, Chris will get back to the lodge alive. In a short cutscene, Hannah is seen pulling Josh's unconscious body away from the shed.
Chapter 9[]
Hannah can briefly be seen crawling under the cracked floorboards of the tunnel before the group makes it to the manhole. When playing as Ashley after she goes down the manhole and is trying to catch up to the group, Hannah will be hiding underneath a cellar door down a fork in the road, mimicking Jessica's voice to lure Ashley in. If Ashley follows the voice and decides to open the hatch, Hannah will suddenly burst out and decapitate Ashley. If Chris had been left behind earlier in the tunnels, Hannah will try the same trick on him as she did on Ashley once Chris goes down the manhole too. However, if Hannah has killed Ashley, Chris will be decapitated too no matter what. In a short cutscene afterwards, an unconscious Josh is dropped by Hannah inside a cave in the mines.
Chapter 10[]
Hannah reanimated as a Wendigo.
Hannah, along with Beth, appears to Josh during his hallucination in the mines. They are shown to be slightly cracked and dead in appearance. In the hallucination, Hannah tells Josh they were alone down there, but now he is with them as a reunited family. This is a depiction of Josh's own mind and feelings tormenting him. They disappear for a few seconds before emerging from intestines, now bloodied. Hannah rips her face open and reveals her skull, asking Josh if this is what he wants. After Beth and Hannah once again claim Josh wanted them to die and that he did nothing to save them, Josh demands them to leave him alone. Now having terrified Josh to no end, they disappear only for a huge Wendigo head to show up through the cavern wall and screech at Josh before the scene cuts to Sam and Mike.
Hannah has shown throughout the game that she preyed upon those that pranked her a year ago. As the protagonists try to survive the night, Hannah may have already killed Ashley, Emily, Matt, Chris and Jessica, depending on the player's actions, and hung their bodies inside her lair alongside the Stranger's. Shortly after Sam and Mike find the lair, Hannah will kill Josh if the Scrawled Journal was not found. If it has been found, she will recognize him, spare him and take him away while Mike hides in fear. If Matt and/or Jess is still, Hannah will attack them and, if they fail in their attempt to escape the mines, kill them.
After entering the lodge, Hannah begins to fight with two other Wendigos that broke in before her and chased the remaining survivors. One of the fights results in Hannah haphazardly throwing a Wendigo across the room, causing it to land against the fireplace, creating a gas leak. In the lodge, Hannah may kill Sam, Mike, Ashley or Emily. With Sam's acknowledgment of the gas leak, she and Mike then decide to ignite the gas leak with a broken light bulb to destroy the lodge, ultimately killing all the Wendigos as the group barely escapes the lodge in time, just as a rescue helicopter arrives.
Credits (Mentioned)[]
- If Sam survived, she indirectly mentions Hannah when talking about Josh, saying she tried to support him "after his sisters disappeared."
Death[]
- Sam or Mike (depending on the player's actions) will always light the lodge on fire, causing an explosion, which kills Hannah and the other Wendigos in the lodge.
Killed Victims[]
- An elk
Hannah will fatally injure an elk when Mike and Jessica make their way to the guest cabin. She will then drag the elk away, scaring the pair.
- Jessica (Determinant)
Jessica is grabbed out of the guest cabin window and dragged through the snow into the mines by Hannah in Chapter 4. If Mike is too late in catching up to Jessica, either through taking the slow paths or by failing QTEs, Jessica will be dead by the time he finds her, having her lower jaw torn off by Hannah. If alive, Hannah will find Jess once more in the mines in Chapter 10. Should she attempt to run or fail a Don't Move segment, Hannah will rip off her lower jaw.
- Matt (Determinant)
After the fall of the fire tower, Matt can choose to save Emily or jump to safety. If he attempts to save Emily twice, he will descend deeper into the mine, and if he does not have a flare gun to fend off his attack, will be impaled through the jaw on a meathook. If Matt lived until Chapter 10, he will be pursued by Hannah in the mines. If he fails to stay still or fails a QTE, Hannah will bash his face in with her fists.
- Emily (Determinant)
When Emily tries to find her way out of the mines in Chapter 8, Hannah pursues her. Should she make fatal mistakes during her chase, by missing QTEs or failing to make a decision, Hannah will catch up to her and gouge her eyes out. Emily can be killed the same way by Hannah in Chapter 10; should she be the last in line to leave the lodge, Sam does nothing when having the option to save Mike/fails her Don't Move, and Sam does nothing when given the option to save Emily.
When retrieving Josh with Chris, the Stranger will always be decapitated.
- Chris (Determinant)
If Chris fails to shoot Hannah in time in Chapter 8, or if he shot Ashley in Chapter 6, Hannah will decapitate Chris. If Chris was left behind in Chapter 9 and Ashley opened the trapdoor, Hannah will always decapitate Chris; he can also die by opening the trapdoor himself.
- Ashley (Determinant)
If Ashley investigates what she thinks is Jessica's voice, and furthermore opens up the trapdoor, Hannah will jump out and decapitate her. Ashley, like Emily, can also have her eyes gouged out in Chapter 10; should she be the last in line to leave the lodge, Sam does nothing when having the option to save Mike/fails her Don't Move, and Sam does nothing when given the option to save Ashley.
- Josh (Determinant)
If Sam did not find the Scrawled Journal, Hannah will crush Josh's head when he and Mike are wading through the mine's water in Chapter 10.
- Two Wendigos
Hannah will kill two miner Wendigos during the final lodge confrontation.
- Sam (Determinant)
Should Sam fail any of her Don't Move segments (apart from the first one, which kills Mike), or fail to make a decision between hiding and running (to the switch), Hannah will impale her abdomen with her hand and arm.
- Mike (Determinant)
If Sam fails her first Don't Move segment, Hannah will fatally injure Mike by slashing his abdomen and throwing him against a pillar.
Relationships[]
Beth[]
See Hannah and Beth for more information.
Beth was Hannah's younger twin sister. The two were naturally very close due to being siblings, but also noticeably good friends. They seem to care very much for each other, as evident by Beth's relationship status with Hannah and her sisterly protectiveness, shown in how she ran after Hannah after the prank.
When Beth finds Hannah in the woods, she immediately offers her her coat, before being pursued by the then unknown danger. After reaching the end of a cliff, Hannah slips and drags Beth down before Beth manages to grab onto a protruding branch. The Stranger then extends his hand in an attempt to rescue them. Beth has the option to either drop her sister to save herself or let go of the branch. Regardless, the twins fall down the cliff and into the mines, and in Beth's case, her death. In Hannah's journal, found by Sam in the mines, she expresses sorrow for the death of her sister, and the extreme regret she feels in digging her up to eat her corpse.
In Beth’s relationship stats, Hannah ranks highest.
Josh[]
See Hannah and Josh for more information.
Hannah and Beth placing Josh on the couch.
Josh was Hannah and Beth's older brother. He had a very close relationship with both twins. Hannah seemed to notice Josh's illness as referenced in her diary. One year into their disappearance, the twins' friends and local police presumed them dead. Josh, still mourning his sisters' presumed deaths, blamed himself for being unable to interfere and help the night of the prank. However, Josh has an alternate persona, revealed to be The Psycho, a masked maniac that mentally tortures the group a year after, as a form of revenge, in order for them to experience the same emotions his sisters a year prior felt.
Hannah seemed to care about Josh as much as he did for her. If Mike and Sam found Hannah's Journal in the mines, they will later reveal the truth to Josh. When Hannah is encountered soon after, Josh will recognize her in time by shouting her name, resulting in her recognizing him back. Instead of killing Josh, she will drag Josh away to her lair. If Mike and Sam did not find the Journal, Josh will recognize Hannah too late and be killed.
Ashley[]
Ashley and Hannah seemed to be neutral towards each other. Regardless, Ashley still decided to participate in the prank. Ashley's relationship with Hannah, and her affiliation with the prank, becomes a difficult and painful topic for her a year after, where she will be confronted with Hannah's disappearance on multiple occasions. Believing Hannah may be contacting her through a spirit board, Ashley soon becomes frantic and upset. She can claim she had no intention of hurting her, and is seemingly apologetic over what happened. During Josh's prank, Ashley believes they are truly communicating with the ghost of Hannah. In the old hotel, the player can choose whether Ashley can be repentant about her actions, or claim that Hannah overreacted. She has this same option when finding a film reel, playing a video of the prank.
Regardless of her possible regrets, Hannah will mimic Jessica's voice to lure Ashley away from the group. If she succeeds, she will swiftly decapitate Ashley and drag her body away. She may also kill Ashley by sadistically gouging out her eyes.
Chris[]
Hannah wasn't shown to have any interaction with Chris during the Prologue, although he is one of the only three lodge survivors to not participate in the prank played on her. Despite having no involvement, she aggressively pursues him as he runs back to the lodge, and if he is caught, she will decapitate him by plunging her fingers into his neck before ripping his head off. She may also hunt him in the mines, where she can lure him by mimicking the voice of Jessica. If Ashley opened the trapdoor earlier, she may grab Chris from the ceiling and will decapitate him.
Emily[]
Hannah wasn't shown to have a positive relationship with Emily when she was alive, likely due to having a crush on Emily's then-boyfriend, Mike. Emily was very compliant in the prank against her and did not take Hannah seriously, as she brushed Hannah's humiliation off as "just a prank." However, a year later, Emily shows remorse for the disappearance of the sisters. As a Wendigo, Hannah uses cruel tactics when she chases Emily and kills her by slowly and deliberately gouging her eyes out.
Jessica[]
Hannah's relationship with Jessica at the start of the game appeared to be a dubious one, as Jessica was the one who came up with the idea of playing a prank on her. She states her motivations for the prank as "looking out for her girl Em." A year later, Mike and Jessica may find police tape from the search investigation as they make their way to the guest cabin. Jessica regrets her actions, stating they played a stupid half baked prank, but also claims they "could not have expected them to do a dumb thing like that [running into the woods]." She does appreciate Mike possibly being respectful about their disappearance.
As is the case with Emily, Hannah appears to be particularly sadistic when killing a frantic Jessica by inserting two fingers down her throat and forcefully tearing off her lower jaw. This may be the result of Jessica's intimate relationship with Mike, as well as her loudly boasting about having intercourse with him as they were being stalked by Hannah in Chapter 3.
Matt[]
Hannah wasn't shown to have a positive relationship with Matt. He was compliant in the prank and filmed her taking her shirt off for Mike. In the original game, she does, however, call his name out specifically when everyone comes out of their hiding spot – likely because she noticed he was filming the prank. As a Wendigo, Hannah aggressively pursues Matt in the mines, and can kill him by ramming a hook through his lower jaw thereby hanging him from a ceiling, or smashing his face in.
Mike[]
Hannah realizes she got pranked.
Hannah had an obsessive crush on Mike, making her an easy target for the prank. In the remake, Hannah walks up the stairs to her bedroom while the others are talking, and she briefly shares a smile with Mike. In both versions, she arrives in the guest room and, unaware of those who are hiding, approaches Mike. She begins to take off her top, which excites Mike in the original game. When Sam arrives and the others come out of their hiding spots, Hannah is mortified. She yells at Mike and Matt before running from the room. After she and Beth go into the forest, Mike wonders if the group should follow but this idea is discouraged by Sam who suggests that Hannah doesn't want to see Mike.
Hannah's affection for Mike is seen in other places throughout the game. Chris or Sam may find a prom photo featuring Hannah, Mike, Emily, and Sam. In Hannah's bedroom, Sam finds a dating quiz which indicates that Hannah and Mike are incompatible due to her mild temperament and his wild one. It tells her that she should run away from home or get a tattoo. A tattoo card shows that Hannah booked an appointment and got her butterfly tattoo. Sam can also find an old party invite from Mike to Hannah, under which Hannah has hidden a photo of Mike. While Ashley and Chris explore the basement, they find Hannah's diary in a dollhouse. In it, Hannah has written about her crush on Mike, explaining that she is eagerly awaiting for him to RSVP to the Washingtons' party. In one entry, she has happily written about how he's told Josh he's coming. In the remake, Hannah had gone to her room to prepare to meet Mike, and there is a diary entry from this moment as well, explaining how excited Hannah is and wondering if Sam had helped set her up with Mike.
After Hannah transforms into a Wendigo and stalks the protagonist, Mike is the only character to never be completely killed by her. However, if she catches him during the final lodge confrontation, she gives him a fatal wound which exposes his organs. This incident is shown as his death in the end credits montage, despite Mike actually being directly killed by the lodge explosion. This indicates that the injury Hannah inflicted on Mike was going to result in his death regardless of the explosion.
Sam[]
See Sam and Hannah for more information.
Sam was Hannah's best friend and one of only three survivors who did not take part in the prank that caused her to flee into the woods. In the Prologue, Sam tried to dissuade the others from pranking Hannah by saying, "Don't you guys think this is a little bit cruel?" She goes on to say that it's not Hannah's fault that she has a crush on someone who is taken. Sam is the only protagonist who attempts to stop the prank and warn Hannah.
After discovering the prank went wrong, Sam sharply criticized her friends as "jerks." Despite the close friendship, as a Wendigo, Hannah shows no mercy and will kill Sam by brutally impaling her in the lower abdomen with her arm if given the chance. However, if or when Sam runs to the switch, Hannah pounces on another Wendigo attempting to attack Sam, leading to the theory that she may have recognized Sam (similarly to how she can recognize Josh if Sam found the Scrawled Journal earlier) and was allowing her to escape and not be caught by the other Wendigo. However, after Sam turns the switch on, Hannah is seen still trying to tackle the Wendigo, implying this may have not been the reason. Will Byles, the director of the game, has stated that it is ambiguous whether Hannah recognized Sam in that moment or whether she was just reacting to movement. Byles does say that there was a tiny spark of Hannah’s humanity present.[3]
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood[]
Hannah and Beth appear in the VR spin-off Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, during the Nightmare Descent level.
The Inpatient[]
Hannah and Beth can also appear in one of the endings of the prequel based on the 50s, The Inpatient. They will be seen being chased in the forest, fleeing the Makkapitew (in this case, the player) and approaching the edge of the clifftop.
Trivia[]
- Hannah, as a Wendigo, appears to have specific methods for killing her former friends. If given the opportunity, she will always impale Sam in the stomach; decapitate Chris; rip off Jessica's lower jaw; crush Josh's head; and gouge out Emily's eyes. Only Matt and Ashley can be killed in two ways: Matt can have his face smashed in or his jaw impaled through a hook, while Ashley can be decapitated or have her eyes gouged out.
- She appears to have a tendency to attack her victim's heads, which she collects afterwards. This can be seen when Sam opens the door to her lair: the head of the Stranger and (depending on player's actions) the heads of Jessica, Matt, Ashley, and Chris can be seen.
- Strangely enough, Emily's corpse is never decapitated.
- She appears to have a tendency to attack her victim's heads, which she collects afterwards. This can be seen when Sam opens the door to her lair: the head of the Stranger and (depending on player's actions) the heads of Jessica, Matt, Ashley, and Chris can be seen.
- Hannah is larger and stronger than the other Wendigos and visibly dominant over them. Hannah's strength and size is the result of her being able to roam free on the mountain, having a much greater access to food sources (as opposed to the Wendigos in the Sanatorium)[4] - when a Wendigo feeds, it grows.
- It is also theorized among fans that Hannah was possessed by the Makkapitew spirit, which was known as the strongest of the Wendigos. The Stranger was hunting the Makkapitew the night of Hannah and Beth's disappearance and released its spirit into the air when he killed it.[5] This theory, however, is unconfirmed.
- The only playable character that Hannah can/will not directly kill is Mike.
- She can fatally wound him in Chapter 10, which will be counted as his time of death in the original. However, Mike will still be alive to blow up the lodge with his lighter if Sam dies.
- If she, as a Wendigo, was shot by Mike in Chapter 4, she will have a bullet stuck in her head for the rest of the game.
- If she killed Josh in Chapter 10, she will be seen later with his blood covering her mouth and upper chest.
- Hannah is the only non-playable character among the ten presented in the Prologue.
- She was a passionate tennis player, as shown by her winning the bronze medal in the Alberta International 2013 Championship.
- She also seemed to love horse-riding, indicated by the horse-riding photos in her room, and the certificates on the Remembrance Board.
- It was originally incorrectly assumed that Ella Lentini, Hannah and Beth's voice actress, was also part of the original cast when the game was developed for the PS3, alongside Noah Fleiss, Chris' voice actor, and Brett Dalton, Mike's voice actor. However, she has since confirmed in a Twitch livestream that she was not involved in the PS3 iteration of Until Dawn. Megan Prescott played Hannah and Beth in the PS3 beta.
- In the PS3 beta version of the game, Hannah's appearance (as well as Beth's) was completely different, she had short black hair and wore a black tank top and black jeans.
- Hannah also didn't wear glasses originally. Instead, Beth wore glasses at points during the development of the game.
- An early version of the prank footage Chris and Ashley watch in the projector room shows Hannah's PlayStation 3 version.[6]
- In an earlier version of the PlayStation 4 version of the game, Hannah wore a pink bow in her hair.
- This can be seen in a photo on the ground floor of the Washington Lodge. The same photo can be seen on Hill’s desk by using a free cam.[7]
- Her bow is referenced by Emily in cut dialogue. It appears that it was replaced by glasses during production.
- She also wears the ribbon in Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and it appears on the Remembrance Board.
- Hannah's character is possibly inspired by Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th film series by her origin of being a victim of pranks and harassment. Like him, after being presumed dead, she returns as a bloodthirsty killer. However, unlike Jason, Hannah later died and didn't come back.
- Her story also bears some resemblance to that of Carrie White, the titular character of Stephen King's Carrie who suffered a humiliating prank.
- In the remake, new Hunger Totems reveal Hannah's point of view when she's inside the mine, revealing her digging Beth up and transforming into a Wendigo.
- An old mattress can be found in the mine. This was most likely used by Hannah.
- Hannah, in the remake, likely thought Sam was part of the prank, as the drawing on the back of the note was made by her (Sam drew all of her friends in her art book). An entry of Hannah's diary later reveals that Hannah assumed Sam was looking to set her up with Mike.
- Pictures of Mike, Sam, Ashley, Jess, and Beth (with a photobombing Josh) can be seen on Hannah's bedroom mirror in the remake, as well as a dog and a cat.[8]
- Until Dawn’s director, Will Byles, has revealed that Hannah was pregnant in an earlier version of the game developed by London Studio.[3]
- It has been theorized that the Compatibility Test is partially responsible for Hannah fleeing the lodge, due to the fact that it suggests running away from home as a way to get the attention of one's crush.
- Hannah has a line of unused dialogue in which she calls for Mike upon hearing Beth approaching, and this adds some more support for the theory.
- When Josh recognized Hannah in the mines, a cry in Hannah's voice can be heard in the original game. Many players have theorized that this is the last bit of Hannah's humanity crying for help.
- In a podcast interview, the Executive Director of Until Dawn, Will Byles, answered a question about whether Hannah, as a Wendigo, was aware of her actions and intentionally designed to have a semblance of her human mind remaining. He said: "The short answer is, yes. But it's very, very fragile. There's two areas where it kind of comes in: the one at the end where she attacks the Wendigo that's attacking Sam. It's a slightly ambiguous thing there. Wendigos are attracted by movement, and there was something attacking somebody, so she attacks the movement. But there is a little bit of it that's there. The biggest thing where you can see a bit of Hannah remaining is down in the underground lake. Josh either realizes it's Hannah or not, and he does that by recognizing the tattoo, the butterfly tattoo. If you recognize it and see that, Hannah doesn't crush his head. And that's because it's Hannah. She still sees the fact that it's Josh. And there's a kind of a mutual recognition. That's the only really overt section of it. There's an ambiguous bit with Sam, and I kinda like that stuff about the way you could have interpreted it. But the reality is in the way we wrote it, there is that tiny, tiny little spark of her that's still there. There's a couple of little bits where we wanted to have just that element of something in there. The scream stuff was a very clever bunch of things that Barney Pratt, the audio director did, where we mixed a whole bunch of different things into the screams."[3]

- ↑ The Newspaper Fragment states Melinda Washington was heavily pregnant in June of 1997. This references the twins, as Josh was 19 in the Prologue. Given that the prologue takes place in February (early in 2014) the twins would not have yet reached their 17th birthday. Furthermore the Threatening Letter says "16 years I've waited for Hannah and Beth". Her age does not necessarily contradict her inclusion in the Prom Night Photo, as it is possible she was invited as a friend.
