Wow... all Hannah's stuff...

Sam

Hannah’s Bedroom is an area within the Washington Lodge. It appears during a montage in the prologue of the 2024 remake, and it is explorable by Sam during Chapter Two in both versions of the game. This location contains clues about what sort of person Hannah was, provides context to other events of the game, and foreshadows later plot twists.

History[]

This is the room in which Hannah stayed when she was up at her family's lodge.

Layout[]

The bedroom is spacious and decorated in a feminine style; it has pinkish-purple walls with Hannah's initials and many butterfly decorations on them. At the far end of the room is a stone fireplace next to a vanity. In the original game, a large picture of New York (featuring the Empire State Building) is above the vanity. In the remake, this has been replaced by a mirror with pictures taped onto it.

The room also contains a walk-in closet, bed, electric guitar, and additional furnishings such as an armoire and a dresser with a television on top.

Events of Until Dawn[]

In the 2024 remake, Hannah goes to her room while Mike, Emily, Jessica, Ashley, and Matt plan their prank. She changes her top and uses her vanity to write in her diary, drinking from a red solo cup as she does so. She eventually turns off the light and makes her way to the guest room.

In both versions of the game, Sam can explore this room before she goes downstairs to request Josh's help with turning on the hot water. During this segment, the player can uncover details about Hannah’s life and personality. A dating quiz reveals that Hannah and Mike are not very compatible and suggests that Hannah get a tattoo to impress him. An appointment card for a tattoo parlor reveals that Hannah followed this advice. Her butterfly tattoo becomes a key factor identifying her later in the game.

Hannah’s room also characterizes her relationships with her friends and family. In the remake, pictures of Jessica, Mike, Sam, Ashley, Hannah, and Beth and Josh are taped to the mirror. One pinboard bears the same photo of Hannah, Beth, Emily, and Jessica that is on the Remembrance Board. This pinboard also includes a photo of Mike (beneath a party invite from him), a photo of Sam, and a doodle drawn by Josh.

On the nightstand, the player can find an old postcard from Sam which invites the Washington siblings to a Halloween party. It has a picture of a scarecrow and barn on it, and this same image appears in the First Therapy Session.

On the vanity is a music box given to Hannah by Josh. There is an inscription inside which wishes her a Happy Christmas 2010. The box plays "Frère Jacques" which Josh hallucinates Hannah and Beth singing while he is in the mines.

Trivia[]

  • The room also appears in one digital camera photo depicting Hannah, Ashley, Emily, and Jessica spending time there during the prologue party.
  • Matt and Chris are the only protagonists who have no photos displayed in either version of Hannah’s room.
  • A sticky note on one of the pinboards shows that Bob Washington has a personal assistant named Cheryl.
  • The new diary entry which Hannah writes in the remake's prologue can be read by Ashley later.
  • In addition to the New York image being replaced by the mirror, a few other changes were made in the remake.
    • Two paintings (one of a stylized tree and one of a horse) were replaced by paintings of butterflies.
    • Another painting of a horse was replaced by a second pinboard.
    • A photo of Josh and a photo of Hannah were removed from the mantel.
    • Many items on Hannah's vanity were added or changed: a candle was swapped with a lamp, makeup items were added, a stack of magazines was added, a doll was removed, and a shoebox was removed.
  • In a podcast, the director of the game, Will Byles, discussed the picture of New York that was in the original game. The image was a reference to the motion capture location, and he stated that the Washingtons are from New York.[1]
    • Other details in the game (such as the address on Josh's Psychiatric Report) also indicate that the Washingtons currently reside in California.
  • The room decor implies that Hannah is fond of animals.
    • This gives Hannah a shared interest with her best friend, Sam, who also loves animals.
    • A few owls (two plushies and a painting) show up in both versions of the room.
    • Award ribbons appearing in both games indicate that Hannah worked with horses and was talented in an equestrian sport.
    • In the remake, many photographs of animals are taped or pinned up.
      • One white-and-brown cat, which appears by the mirror and a pinboard, belonged to a developer at Ballistic Moon, Cassy Cornish. His name was Romeo, and he passed away during production.[2]
