Mike, Ashley, and Chris (if he survived), enter the basement, as Sam asks where the Stranger (and Chris if he died) is. Chris tells her about the Stranger's, If Chris died, Mike will tell Sam about Chris’ death instead, leaving her to assume the Stranger died as well.
- If Chris died and he had previously decided to shoot Ashley, she coldly snaps at Sam when she asks if she's alright.
- If Chris did not shoot Ashley but died in his chase, she is very devastated by his death.
In the basement, Mike decides to try to look for another exit in case a Wendigo breaks in, and Sam tries to convince him that they should all stay in the basement until dawn. Soon, Mike deduces that Josh has the key to the cable car. If Emily is alive, she’ll mention that the Wendigo probably took him down to the mines. Emily and Sam find a map of the area in the Stranger's belongings, and Mike starts to share information about what he had learned in the Sanatorium.
- Mike can mention the cave-in that trapped the miners through finding the Mine Rescue Photo.
- Mike can inform the group about the survival of several miners and death of the others through finding the Clocking-In Cards.
- Mike can talk about the trespassing reporter and the cover-up through finding the Old Newspaper.
- Mike can mention the mines were known to be a death trap through finding the Mine Danger Map.
- Mike can bring up the torturous activities undertaken in the Sanatorium through finding the Restraining Chair.
- If Mike did not find any of these clues, he will vaguely mention cages, weapons and wolves inside the Sanatorium, to which Emily will question if he's sure he wasn't at a truck stop.[1]
If Emily had been bitten by the Wendigo, Ashley will then discover her bite while Emily is looking at the map, to which Emily will try to reassure everyone that she is fine. Everyone, except for Sam, will believe Emily might turn into a Wendigo. They interrogate her and try to force her to leave the room, which Emily refuses to do.
Emily begs Mike not to shoot her (2024 remake version)
After Emily refuses to leave, Mike grabs his gun and backs Emily up against a wall. He will be given the option to shoot and kill her or keep her alive and let her stay. Mike will then leave to search for Josh, heading for the tunnel that leads from the hotel to the Sanatorium.
